When I got home after 10, I was pretty hungry considering I had missed dinner... I really just wanted a couple pieces of toast and some "special" apple butter (homemade from a small town in Illinois)... I turned on the TV to watch an episode of NCIS before bed, and seriously, it could have only been like a minute and my smoke detector was going off?! I looked to my toaster oven to see it engulfed in flames and smoke quickly filling my apartment! I was scared my cabinets were going to catch on fire... I unplugged the toaster oven and grabbed the fire extinguisher from under my sink... there was no pin to pull so I tested it in the sink real quick. Um, definitely tons of the chemical stuff sprayed up in my face (thank God I had my glasses on--they kept the powder stuff out of my eyes!) and it started to irritate my nose... I literally spritzed the extinguisher once in the toaster oven and the fire was out. The smoke alarm was still going off so I shut the doors to my bedroom (to try to keep the smoke out of there), turned my fans on, opened the windows, and grabbed a dishtowel to wave the smoke away from my smoke detector. About then I had tears in my eyes, and whether it was from the smoke or from the pain in my arms (from earlier) I don't know!!

The smoke detector finally went off, and I started cleaning up... First, I rinsed my nose out and washed my face, then went to the kitchen again. I took a quick picture of my pitiful toaster oven... Thankfully, nothing but the toaster oven was burned. I rinsed out the sink and examined the fire extinguisher. The pressure was still high enough that it does not need to be refilled or anything, and I then noticed the instruction label...

Okay, if you're trying to put out a fire, like you have time to read the instruction label! At least I know to stand 8 ft back next time... Goodness I hope there is NOT a next time! After it was all cleaned up... I saw my apple butter sitting on my stove and being very frustrated at this point, I all but threw it back into the fridge...

So, I just paused my blogging and went downstairs to Shad's office. He brought in his camp stove for me to borrow, and I needed him to show me how to use it before Jen and I camp this weekend. He walked me through setting it up, connecting the fuel tank, etc. Um, within a second of lighting it, his desk was on fire. Apparently he didn't quite remember how to use it! Ha... We sat there watching the fuel burn on top of his desk (which surprisingly, the desk did not catch on fire), he tossed the lighters off the desk and blew the flame out... we were completely cracking up! Seriously?! I am kind of scared to go camping if this is my track record for fire this week!!!

At least these two most recent times I waited until the fire was under control before taking pictures... (Anyone remember the sweet potato incident?!)
