Thursday, June 18th - Day 6

Thursday was a big work day. With several 100 door hangers and several "neighborhoods" off of Knik Goose Bay road with empty door knobs, we got started early and spent four hours in the morning passing them out. After a quick lunch at Subway, we hit the streets again for at least another four hours.

Thursday was great because we saw so many families and so many KIDS playing outside. Nolan was great with them--going up to them and inviting them to VBS. He really got into it! (He's in the blue and blue striped shirt.)

Tara took a break from driving us, and I took a break from passing out fliers so that she and Nolan could team up. We had a great system going, and we visited soooo many houses.

Kelsey, Camille, Tara, and Nolan

Again with the signs?! This was posted in someone's yard.
I guess they didn't want dogs pooping in their yard.

We hit a stretch of road that had several quadraplexes (is this even a word?). We made a game out of it, each running to one door and then racing back to the car. We got all of these done quickly! Just after this picture (which we took after we had gotten the whole street) Kelsey started getting a migraine.

After going down one more (long) street, we headed back to Jim and Brenda's. Kels went straight to bed, and everyone else hung out upstairs resting. Looong day, but a great day! Jim fried some fresh halibut, fresh cod, fresh rockfish.... and maybe something else? It was amazing! Jim and Brenda's hospitality kept blowing me away--they are so generous and gracious.

After dinner sometime, Kelsey came up and got a quick bite to eat. She was feeling a little better, but not great still. Pastor Henry and the Schneiders had picked out a book for her from one of the stores in Talkeetna. We had a little presentation... The book? "Outhouses of Alaska" and yes, they really do have that book!! Apparently, someone who has been photographing outhouses for 20 years made the book. The team all signed it-- and what a laugh it was!

Kelsey had spent most the evening sleeping, and it was just plain hard for me to go to bed with daylight shining in, so we thought a movie might be perfect to get us sleepy again. We watched The Fugitive --great movie with Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones. After the movie, we definitely went straight to bed... ready to get some sleep before our 3am wake up!

Kelsey and I curled up for a nap haha... Yeah, that is what it looks like outside at 9pm!! (And, keep in mind, the windows had darkening shades on them!)

Friday is our treat for all our hard work this week :-) a train ride from Anchorage to Seward (and back of course), and a cruise around Resurrection Bay. You guessed it, LOTS of pictures!
